Therapy is the first step to understanding the reasons behind the distress you’re experiencing. The Clinical Psychologist will first conduct a thorough assessment on the types of symptoms you are experiencing and the reasons why this may be happening. They will then discuss and collaboratively decide a therapeutic approach that suits you to begin treatment. Therapies help frame your distress in a way that makes them more manageable and allows you to regain control of day to day living and minimize the distress you may be feeling.
One of they key aspects of therapy is developing a formulation which is a shared understanding of the issues that you are experiencing and this is generally underpinned by a theoretical model. Some of these models may include Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Based Therapy (ACT), Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT) and Cognitive Analytic Therapy (CAT).
Yes therapy sessions are confidential and the clinician will keep therapy notes, which will be referenced and kept securely. The exception to the confidentiality rule is that if our Clinical Psychologist has reason to believe that you are at risk of harming yourself or somebody else, then they have a professional duty of care to report this to appropriate agencies. However they will discuss this with you first.
We understand that you may not always be able to make your appointment. Life happens! However we do require that you give us at least 24 hours notice before cancelling your appointment. Cancellations with less than 24 hours notice or prior notice will be charged 50% of the appointment fee. 0113 873 0158
